Stefan Mahlstein joins North Point Securities as Senior Advisor

Stefan Mahlstein has recently joined North Point Securities as Senior Advisor. Below you can read a short interview with Stefan about his career and how he will be able to contribute to North Point Securities.

What does your background look like?

After my law degree at Uppsala University, my career began at the Swedish Tax Agency in Stockholm. After that, it was just over 5 years at Avanza Bank as, among other things, manager of business and product development. Then also created Sweden's first capital insurance without lock-in which others then copied. I then tested my wings as a CEO by helping Unibet start and build an online poker platform provider. Has since also founded the digital media agency Pineberry and the insurtech company Gofido, in both cases together with the former Avanza colleagues. Along the way, I have also invested in a variety of digital startups.

What is your main occupation today?

Today, I mainly divide my time between Pineberry and Gofido as well as some of the approx. 25 portfolio companies that I have invested in. I also have a board position in Wise Group and sit on the board of Swedish BP Fellows and on a committee for the World Scout Foundation.

Please tell us more about your work as an investor. What type of companies do you invest in and at what stage?

I am happy to invest in early stages, but there must be a product or service that is ready for commercialization. Above all, it is about companies that want to change or improve traditional industries with the help of digitization. The advantage is that there is thus already a market. The challenge then becomes "just" trying to predict how it will change.

How will your advice create value for North Point Securities?

Since I have both built and invested in companies for almost 30 years, I have extensive experience in everything from M&A and financing to business development, so these are experiences that I can share with you. In addition, I have a complementary network of business builders and investors who I know can benefit from North Point Securities' services.

How do you see the future of both North Point Securities and the market for unlisted investments and IPOs?

Most entrepreneurs want to be able to focus fully on developing their company. North Point Securities is therefore a good supplementary support in other important matters such as financing and possible exit. Considering that company building has been increasing for a number of years now, the market for unlisted investments and IPOs is constantly growing, so there will be a lot to do for a long time to come.
